By default, WordPress gives you the option to create either pages or blog posts.
This is fine for most websites, but when your website starts to get complex and contains hundreds of pages, then it might be useful to categorise these pages for better workflows.
Custom post types in WordPress allow you to organise your content on the front-end and back-end of your website.
For example, you can create a custom post type called "Services" and then create pages under this category.
All the pages will be stored in a separate section in your WordPress dashboard.
You can then build navigation on the front end that lists these pages.
There are many custom post-type plugins available for WordPress, one of the most popular plugins is Custom Post Type UI.
The Custom Post Type UI is a powerful plugin that allows you to organise your content better in WordPress. It does take some time to understand this plugin, but when mastered it is simply awesome and best of all it is free!
Here are some other Custom Post Type plugins:
Tip: I would suggest creating a staging website to test the above plugins before deploying any of them to your live website.
